WG1 Occurrence and early detection of zoosporic parasites
Aims
Harmonised and standardised methods, protocols and tools are key to achieving a robust and comprehensive overview of when, where and on which host we find zoosporic parasites in aquatic environments.
This overview will not only improve our understanding of the (functional) ecology of zoosporic parasites but also support professionals in the development of early-detection methods and control mechanisms for zoosporic parasite infections in natural and man-made environments.
- Training School on harmonisation and validation of analytical methods, both traditional and innovative approaches.
- Reciprocal STSMs among academia, industry and water management to design monitoring campaigns to obtain data on parasites occurrence in natural and industrial systems, test methods and develop specific protocols for monitoring zoosporic diseases in algal biotech and natural systems.
Deliverables
- Synthesis paper on occurrence of zoosporic parasites in natural and industrial systems.
- Interactive web page and on-line catalogue of aquatic zoosporic parasites, their hosts and their occurrence.
- Standard Operating Procedures for identification, early detection and monitoring methods of zoosporic parasitic infection for end-users, including aquatic scientists, water managers and algae biotechnology engineers.
